AI Advances, Fear or What?

The ultimate man-computer Go match between the human Go champion- Ke and Google’s AlphaGo in May 2017 turned out, as expected, with a total all 3 wins by AlphaGo. Many are saying and are rather pessimistic about humanity’s future with the scenario that Artificial Intelligence will dominate humanity, rule us all and spell the end of humanity. This is of course worrying. In this post, I’d like to share two ideas just spread via TED Talks in April 2017 from Stuart Russell (an AI researcher) and Garry Kasparov (the renown chess champion who lost to IBM’s Deepblue in 1998), and . Both are brilliant talks with great insights, and I hope you can find some comfort in the these…… In particular, Russell’s 3 principles for creating safer AI is very interesting, provocative and worth contemplating, e.g. against the Three Laws in the movie I, Robot.  In viewing the TED talks, it’d be interesting to know and you may (say if you’re in a hurry) use the 1.25x and 1.5x speed (for these, I like to use the 1.25 first and subsequently 1.5x), turning on the subtitles helps me too. Enjoy…
